Do you know what is harder than backing a camper trailer into its parking spot? Backing a camper trailer into its spot in the dark. Your mirrors are basically useless, and you’re driving blind.
The only way I was able to manage getting it into position was by listening to my beloved wife. She was on her phone, giving direction, and her voice filled the cab of the truck, being amplified through the car’s sound system, drowning out all other sounds and noises.

And, the reason this system worked is because I trusted the voice, giving me direction. Even though I wasn’t confident in where I was going, the voice of the one I trusted filled my head and ears.
In John 8:12 “Again Jesus spoke to [the Pharisees], saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Do you know what’s harder than going through life? Going through life in darkness. Facing the challenges of life constantly beating you down, blindly groping in the dark, looking for something–anything!–to steady your walk and point you in the right direction.
That’s why Jesus words are so important. Because whether or not you are walking in the dark yourself, chances are you know someone quietly struggling through life.
And Jesus is the light in the darkness that helps life make sense. Knowing Jesus doesn’t magically make life easier, but it helps you see the bigger picture of what God is doing in your life–comforting you in your struggles, and giving you purpose and strength to face the brokenness of this world, trusting in God to see you through.
And we do that by listening to Jesus’ direction, even when you can’t fully see where you are doing to end up. And just like listening to your beloved wife telling you when to turn and when to stop, you can trust Jesus’ words to give direction in life.
May the voice of the One you can trust–Jesus, the light of the world–fill your head and ears, giving you the light of life.
